Happy New Year

My last question for 2009 for you is, What funny habit did you inherit from your parents? Mine is saving containers, everything from peanut butter and miracle whip plastic bottles, hot cocoa, frosting, even nut containers. You never know when they will come in handy and sometimes I wonder what to do with them. Well as the Christmas Holiday came and went and my family was sick with the stomach flu, I was unable to get out and deliver fun neighbor and freind gifts. So I came up with this idea for a New Year Treat for my neighbors and I could use some of those containers I have been saving.

I decorated the following containers using:
1. From the Holiday mini catalog I used the Night & Day Specialty Designer Series Paper & Silver Elastic Cord (which is great to have around for attaching tags to gifts). If you haven't ordered these items from this mini catalog, you will need to hurry, the catalog expires on January 4, 2010.
2. Card Stock: Basic Black, Silver, Real Red
3. Big Shot Die: Flower Folds & Two Tags
4. Other: 1" circle punch, clear jeweled brad, sticky strip
5. Stamp Set: Family Phrases

I filled each container with Chex Party Mix with a twist. Since I like a little salty and sweet mixed together, I added M&M's. Since most of you know I don't live close to a grocery store I have to use what I have on hand and the only M&M's I had were Halloween. I thought they added a fun festive look to the Party Mix.

Happy New Year!

Christmas Countdown (3 weeks)

Check back every Friday until Christmas for more FUN Christmas gift giving ideas!

As most of you know I don't live close to any type of store. When I need a gift box, wrapping paper, scotch tape or a gift bag I can't just jump into the car and run to a local Walmart or grocery store. Here are a few FUN packaging solutions that can either work for Christmas or any other occasion.

A soup can!
I open a pop up soup can with my Pampered Chef can opener, use the contents and wash out the can. Decorate the can and fill it with your gift. I have found that our sticky strip tape works the best to make the paper stick to the can. Now for the tricky part, use either a little super glue or SIU Crystal Effects around the edge of the cans lid to stick the lid back onto the can. Now your gift recipient can open the pop up to retrieve their gift

Just use a soup can as a little gift bag with out the lid. You can use your Crop-A-Dile to punch holes in the sides of the can.

Just any random empty container you have.
This is a container that crystal light drink mixture came in.

Not just another gift bag!
All you need are two coordinating sheets of 12X12 double sided Designer Series Paper. On both sheets score along the top edge at 2" and along the other 3 edges at 3". Fold and cut one side of the paper where the 3" score lines cross each other. Now use our double sided sticky tape (this works the best) to assemble bag. You can change your scoring dimensions to make a skinner or taller bag. Use some ribbon for the handles. Now you have a one of a kind bag to give your gift in.

Jingle all the Way Tile
This project is so FUN and QUICK to make.
I purchased a small tile from a home improvement store and the bells from a craft Store.
StampIn Up Items used:
1. Jingle All the Way small red (Item #114707 , $3.50) Definitely Decorative Vinyl
2. 3/4" Polka-Dot Grosgrain Real Red Ribbon (Item # 115608, $8.95)

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
SIU has some great surprises for you in 2010!

Christmas Scout Project

This month for our Scout Pack Meeting we will be going caroling and taking plates of cookies to neighbors the scouts have chosen. We thought it would be fun for the scouts to create cards to go with the plates of cookies. So I brought a few supplies to Den meeting on Wednesday.

This is what I came up with and asked the boys to create their own card
Here is what the boys came up with. I think they had fun making the cards, especially with the punches.

We used the SIU ornament punch and the scout symbol punch(which I found in a clearance bin at a craft store several years ago)

MERRY CHRISTMAS
